What is an introvert or an extrovert? An introvert is someone whose energy "battery" is slowly drained by excessive external stimuli or spending time with large groups of people while an extrovert charges their energy battery. Some consider a person with mixed traits an ambivert, they could be introverted or extroverted depending on their setting, who they are with, and if they are comfortable or excited about the activity they are participating in.
An additional way to differentiate is thought process: introverts tend to take more time to process their thoughts and may be more quiet and observant while extroverts tend to speak their mind and be quick to respond or take action. Now the most important thing to recognize that there are strengths at every end of the spectrum. We also want to be flexible enough to switch between the two if the setting calls for it.
This month we are going to focus on introversion. What do you do now that might be considered an introverted tendency? Even if you are not an introvert we are going to explore the application of some of these concepts like setting aside time for yourself, thinking through your thoughts before speaking, etc. This does not mean you are changing who you are, we are just practicing the skills to allow us to be adaptable to any given situation and with any crowd.
